What is a Nurse Coach?
A nurse coach is a trained Registered Nurse (RN) who brings a wealth of coaching skills and nursing expertise. Nurse coaches are trained in the principles of coaching and have holistic training as a nurse, rooted in science and evidence-based practice. Goal achievement is supported through a strengths-based approach. By helping you to explore goals, barriers, and a path to your desired change, they help you tap into your inner wisdom (Southard, Dossey, Bark, & Schaub, 2021). In a nutshell, nurse coaches help you to define and achieve your goals. More information can be found here.
As a human being myself, I can relate to how challenging life can be. Some challenges are external, like a new career, facing a major life decision, or a change in family structure such as a divorce or kids heading off to college. Other challenges are internal, such as a fear of failure, self-limiting thinking, or negative self-talk. Both types of challenges can lead to feeling like we’ve hit an invisible wall, making it hard to move forward.
Nurse coaches work with humans like you to break past barriers, navigate the stuck and the messy, the challenging, and the uncertain.
What Can You Achieve by Working With a Nurse Coach?
Whether it’s a healthy lifestyle, life balance, stress management, or navigating life changes, a nurse coach can help you discover your path. They honor you as a whole person without judgment. And they create a safe space for you to explore, define, and achieve your goals.
A nurse coach can help you to address the following and more:
Do you want to reach a goal but aren’t sure what’s holding you back?
- A nurse coach can help you overcome resistance, safely recognize self-sabotaging, and get of your own way.
Do you want to make a major change in your life?
- A nurse coach can help you get comfortable with the uncomfortable. They can also help you to be gentle to yourself, and move down the right path for you.
Are you considering the next step in your career?
- A nurse coach can help you see your end game, identify potential barriers, and identify steps to achieve your goal.
Will a Nurse Coach Take Care of My Health Issue/Disease?
Typically, a nurse coach does not provide physical or mental health care as you would receive in a medical setting. Although, it is common for a person to see a nurse coach in addition to receiving medical and nursing care from other clinicians. As part of a holistic approach to overall wellness, some clinicians providing physical and mental/behavioral health care work collaboratively with nurse coaches, either by having a nurse coach on staff or referring/advising for nurse coaching services.
During any sessions or interactions with Pro Nurse Coach or its employees, no physical care, no mental health care, and no medical advice will be provided. You should not substitute anything from this website or any future work with Pro Nurse Coach for medical advice, care, or therapy from a health care provider. See the Disclaimer for further information.
Does a Nurse Coach provide therapy?
No. Nurse coaching is for individuals who are emotionally and psychologically healthy and is in no way considered or construed as any type of therapy. Sometimes nurse coaches will refer to another qualified professional such as a therapist.
